Did you Know?
Liturgical seasons are arranged on the basis of the date of Easter each year. Easter or the Resurrection of the Lord is celebrated on a Sunday, one of the 35 dates between March 22 and April 25 as per the Catholic Tradition. It is the first Sunday following the 14th day of the full moon on or after March 20 (Spring Equinox). The aim of the Easter Dating Method is to maintain, for each Easter Sunday, the same season of the year and the same relationship to the preceding astronomical full moon that occurred at the time of his resurrection in 30 A.D. We know that Easter must always occur on a Sunday, because Sunday was the day of Christ’s Resurrection. But, why the paschal full moon? Because that was the date of Passover in the Jewish calendar, and the Last Supper (Holy Thursday) occurred on the Passover. Therefore, Easter was the Sunday after Passover. The orthodox Christians still follow the Julian calendar and their Easter date can fall on or within 14 days of Catholic Easter date.
