St. George

st-george-ward

St. George Ward was formed in 2003 with 23 families and has currently 27 families. Geographically the ward boundaries are Delaware River on East, 76 on West and North and South 202 which also includes Philadelphia county and Delaware county (Ardmore, Broomall, Drexel Hill, Havertown, Philadelphia, Springfield, Upper Darby). The first prayer meeting of Syro-Malabar Mission was held in St. George Ward on June, 2003. Since then till 2013 we had Holy Mass in the nearby churches every month. The ward is located nearly 30 miles from the Syro-Malabar church and this necessitated the need of all family to meet on a regular basis and we hold prayer meetings every first Saturday of the month starting from 2003. Most of the members could not go to the Syro-Malabar church due to the distance and we decided to have the Way of the Cross every Saturday during the Lent season at each member’s house. We used to hold our anniversaries and our own picnic every year.

Our sincere gratitude goes to Fr. Mathew Mulangassery, for his dedication and interest to hold the above activities of the Ward for many years.  This year the ward has taken the initiative to sponsor the Feast of St. George during the last weekend of April – April 26th Sunday under the guidance of Vicar Very. Rev. Fr. Johnykutty George. The ward is currently led by President: Jyothi Abraham, Vice-President: Joby Kochumuttom, Secretary: Sobin Jose, Joint Sec: Dr. Sunil Thomas, Treasurer: Sanoj Issac.
